This pre-recorded video delves into the complexities of postpartum mental health, underscoring the essential role osteopaths play in recognising and supporting individuals impacted by these challenges. Allied healthcare professionals are well-placed to offer compassionate support and help normalise mental health discussions within their practice. This course aims to equip participants with the skills to identify postpartum mental health risk factors and recognise potential signs and symptoms, enabling them to make prompt referrals for treatment and support.
The course broadens the scope to include fathers, non-birthing partners, adoptive parents, surrogates, and other caregivers, acknowledging that each may experience unique mental health concerns during the postpartum period. Emphasis is placed on cultural sensitivity, trauma-informed care, and fostering collaborative networks with local mental health and community resources to provide holistic patient care. Optional multiple-choice questions are included throughout the course to help you assess your understanding of the material.
