About the Centre
The National Centre for Chiropractic Research (NCCR) aims to be the UK’s leading centre for chiropractic research, with a progressive, unifying vision for the profession.
The National Centre for Chiropractic Research (NCCR) is based at Health Sciences University (HSU) and in partnership with London South Bank University (LSBU), McTimoney College of Chiropractic, Teesside University, and the University of South Wales.
The NCCR has been established to:
- Strengthen the evidence base for musculoskeletal and chiropractic care;
- Support collaboration across UK chiropractic education institutions;
- Build research capacity and capability across the profession; and
- Support the translation of research into clinical practice, education, and policy.
The NCCR is delighted to have received supporting funding from the General Chiropractic Council (GCC). This funding will contribute to the Centre’s operating costs, supporting leadership and coordination enabling the NCCR to develop and sustain its research activity. The GCC’s support for the NCCR forms part of its wider commitment to proportionate, evidence‑based regulation and to supporting learning and improvement across the profession.
The British Chiropractic Association (BCA) has also contributed funding to the NCCR. The BCA-NCCR Research Development Awards support research that advances evidence-based chiropractic care and improves musculoskeletal (MSK) health. Delivered through the NCCR, this is a competitive, pump-priming funding opportunity designed to support new ideas, develop collaborations and enable progression to larger research programmes.
Who we are
Our Aims
- Advance scientific understanding and the clinical application of evidence-based chiropractic care
- Explore key questions relevant to the profession and support integration of chiropractic within the UK healthcare system
- Provide a national focus for high-quality scientific research that supports the advancement of chiropractic education, practice, and patient care.
Building on the CRC’s Legacy
The NCCR builds on the legacy of the Chiropractic Research Council (CRC). Established in 2013 and funded by members of the British Chiropractic Association (BCA), the CRC provided leadership and unity in chiropractic research for the benefit of UK chiropractic patients and the wider public.
The CRC played a key role in developing a national research strategy and supported researchers at all levels. The CRC was pleased to have gifted its remaining funds and all current funding commitments to the NCCR to work in partnership across academic institutions and the profession to continue building research capacity and support the next generation of chiropractic researchers.
Details of how funds donated by the CRC will be allocated via funding competition will be released later this year.
