Who are SPaCE?

SPaCE stands for Sharing Patient and Community Experience.

We are a group of patients and carers interested in improving healthcare.

By working with Health Sciences University we can help them to:

Provide outstanding person-centred care to our service users
Carry out relevant and useful research to understand and improve on healthcare
Give first-class education to our healthcare students

Help Shape Our Future in Healthcare

We are looking for patients and carers to join our SPaCE group as ‘partners’, to work with us and help shape our future in healthcare.

We want to know what matters to you. What works well for you, what doesn’t, what we should change, and what ideas you have.

Your experiences and views are central to everything we do in delivering health care and we need your help and support to deliver care at its best, both now and in the future.

We welcome people of all backgrounds, perspectives and experiences. It’s highly important for our group to be diverse and inclusive so that we represent as many members of the community as we can.

Enjoy some informal get-togethers and help us to make a difference. SPaCE offers a range of ways for you to get involved:

Clinical – help improve how we support users of our clinical & rehabilitation services
Research – take part in and influence important projects conducted by our research team
Academic – be involved with our students and their learning to impact the future generation of health care providers

What other benefits are there to getting involved?

As well as knowing that you are helping to improve the healthcare experiences for our local community, and the training of our future clinicians, we hope there may be further benefits for you. For some roles we will offer relevant training, and for some roles we will offer remuneration in terms of free access to our resources, for example our new rehabilitation facility (for an agreed number of sessions per year).

What do we mean by ‘patients’ or ‘carers’?

If you currently, have previously, or may in the future access services relevant to any of our healthcare courses or services, either at HSU or elsewhere, then we count you as a ‘patient’. If you provide, or have provided support to a family member, partner, friend or member of the community, then we count you as a ‘carer’.
