HSU joins new university alliance to boost jobs and business growth in the region
Health Sciences University (HSU) joins other universities across the South including the University of Portsmouth, Southampton Solent University, the University of Chichester, Arts University Bournemouth and the University of Winchester, to create a Shared Virtual Technology Transfer Office (SV-TTO) – a first-of-its-kind collaboration for the Wessex region.
Building on initial support from UKRI’s Connecting Capability Fund (RED), the new Shared Virtual Technology Transfer Office aims to strengthen how we translate research into practical outcomes.
Director of Research, Dr Julie Northam, explains: “By pooling expertise, networks and resources, the partnership is designed to accelerate the journey from ideas into ‘real world’ impact, supporting businesses and regional growth. For Health Sciences University, this is an opportunity to increase the reach and influence of our applied health research, ensuring it delivers tangible benefits for our patients, services and communities.”
The collaboration arrives at a pivotal moment for British higher education. The Government’s Post-16 Education and Skills White Paper, has called for universities to move away from competition and towards collaboration. By bringing six institutions together under a shared operational model, the partnership is designed to cut duplication, while deepening regional effectiveness.
The partnership was formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which sets out a shared framework for collaboration, signed by senior representatives of all six universities.
