Clinical and Rehabilitation Services at HSU
At Health Sciences University we are unique for having a broad range of multi-disciplinary clinics on our campus, which bring opportunities for on-campus placements and observations. With high-level expertise in clinical care and rehabilitation, we help people move forward in their care.
By having a range of clinics on our campus, from the Chiropractic clinic to our Integrated Rehabilitation Centre, and by having clinicians referring their patients to our diagnostic imaging facilities, we see thousands of patients through our doors every year, supporting our local community with living well for longer. Students at Health Sciences University have opportunities to observe and undertake placements on campus as well as undertake placements in a range of NHS and private settings.
You can read more about the services that we offer and the ways in which our students are central to these below or discover more about our clinics via our new clinic website.
Our Services
The Clinical and Rehabilitation Services team includes Physiotherapists, Chiropractors, First Contact Practitioners, Sports Rehabilitators, Radiographers, and Sports Scientists. Led by Dr Neil Langridge, the team aims for you to be seen by the right person at the right time.
We offer a suite of services that can be tailored to you as an individual. Whether it’s chiropractic or physiotherapy treatment for an injury or ongoing condition, an NHS Health Check or Health MOT, support with a specific sport injury or performance analysis, or a diagnosis via clinical imaging: we’ve got you covered.
Clinical Education
Clinical Education is central to the services that we offer. We currently offer placements in our imaging, chiropractic, exercise and physiotherapy services.
As a Chiropractic student, you’ll be involved in patient care in our on-site clinic from the beginning of your studies. During the final year of our Master of Chiropractic degree course, you’ll be based in the clinic. As well as our general clinic, you’ll have the opportunity to apply for our Sports Chiropractic Clinic and our Newborn Feeding Clinic.
Students on our imaging courses, including our undergraduate Radiography degrees also benefit from the on-site services that we offer to patients.
Our Ultrasound services support the teaching provision of our postgraduate MSc Medical Ultrasound course, with placements for around 30 students per year. Students studying on our undergraduate BSc (Hons) Radiography (Diagnostic Imaging) degree also benefit from our on-site imaging services.
Patient and Public Involvement Group
SPaCE is our patient and public involvement group. A group of patients and carers from our local community who are interested in improving healthcare, for ourselves and for others.
SPaCE offers a range of ways for you to get involved, either as an academic partner, a research partner, or a clinical partner.
- Academic Partner – be involved with our students and their learning to impact the future generation of health care providers
- Research Partner – take part in and influence important projects conducted by our research team
- Clinical Partner – help improve how we support users of our clinical & rehabilitation services
Integrated Rehabilitation Centre
Our £4.5m state-of-the-art rehabilitation centre was completed in October 2022. From this base, we offer the widest range of clinical and rehabilitation services in Dorset and the surrounding area.
The building offers nine clinic rooms, with a very large open space with a range of equipment allowing everything from older persons rehabilitation to high-level elite sports performance rehabilitation. There is also space for our classes, activities, and rehabilitation in its broadest sense.
