BSc (Hons) Sport Rehabilitation

We do not provide pre-reading or preparation materials for the BSc (Hons) Sport Rehabilitation course. After two years of hard work and in preparation for the next three years it is important you start university well rested.

Some exercises to consider doing in preparation for week one (which are dedicated to student skills and employability) are writing a CV, thinking about what you want to achieve from university, where you are currently planning to go after university and what skills and characteristics are strengths you bring to higher education and which areas need work.

The course-focused activities take place on Thursday (a joint workshop with the BSc Diagnostic Radiography team will take place from 3pm) and Friday (from 9:30 – this session is compulsory – in the Cavendish House Computer Suite in the Main Building) after which there is an SU event at the beach.

There are no additional costs beyond those outlined in the course materials.

HSU polo

You are required to have an HSU polo for labs, placements and practical/presentation assessments. These can be ordered from the following link HERE  Please make sure you order a royal blue “Student” polo.

Accommodation and Living Costs

You will be responsible for arranging and paying for your own accommodation and day-to-day living expenses while studying at HSU.

Limited student accommodation is available for students studying at our Bournemouth campus and is allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Our Student Services team can also provide advice and guidance on finding suitable accommodation.

Travel

You will need to cover the cost of travelling to and from the University, as well as any travel required for placements or other course-related activities. Costs will vary depending on where you live and where your placement is based.

Some UK students from low-income backgrounds may be eligible for travel bursaries. Further information is available on our Scholarships and Bursaries pages.

Placements

If your course includes placements, you may need to budget for additional travel and, where necessary, accommodation costs. These will depend on the location and duration of your placement.

DBS and Police Checks

Some healthcare and professional courses require an Enhanced DBS Check and, where applicable, additional Police Checks. If this applies to your course, you will be responsible for these costs, which are non-refundable.

You will also be required to subscribe to the DBS Update Service for the duration of your studies so your DBS status can be checked when required.

Current costs are approximately:

• Enhanced DBS Check: £58
• DBS Update Service: £16 per year, plus a £5 administration fee
• Police Checks (where required): Costs vary depending on local charges.

Uniforms and Specialist Clothing

Some courses require students to purchase uniforms or specialist clothing for practical classes, placements or clinical activities. If this applies to your course, you will be provided with full details, including where to purchase any required items, before teaching begins.

Professional Memberships and Course Requirements

Some courses recommend or require membership of a professional body, specialist training, or additional qualifications as part of your studies or to meet professional registration requirements. If applicable, your course team will provide further information, including any associated costs.

Study Materials and IT Equipment

Most teaching materials are provided electronically through the University’s Virtual Learning Environment.

Core textbooks are available through the library, although many students choose to purchase some of their own. We recommend waiting until your course begins before buying any books, as your teaching team will advise which texts are most useful.

You should also have access to a suitable laptop or tablet to support your studies. Printing and photocopying are available on campus but are chargeable, except where printing is required for specific clinical activities.

Student ID Card

Your first HSU Student Card is provided free of charge when you register. Replacement cards are available for a non-refundable fee of £10.

Gym Membership

Students studying at our Bournemouth campus can choose to join the on-site gym. Membership is optional, although it may be required for participation in some Students’ Union sports clubs and societies.

Current annual membership fee: £75.

Social Activities

The Students’ Union organises a wide range of social events throughout the year, including activities during Welcome Week. Participation is optional, but you may wish to budget for social activities.

Some UK students from low-income backgrounds may be eligible for financial support towards Welcome Week events through the University’s bursary scheme.

Lockers

A limited number of lockers are available to rent through the Students’ Union for the secure storage of personal belongings.

Graduation

If you successfully complete your course, you’ll be invited to attend a graduation ceremony. Attendance is optional.

Graduates attend free of charge but are required to hire a graduation gown. Guest tickets, travel and accommodation are additional costs.
