Biography
Phill graduated from Aberystwyth University with a BSc in Sport and Exercise Science and Bangor University with a MSc in Applied Sport and Exercise Physiology and University of Dundee with a PGCert in Medical Education also achieving fellowship with the Higher Education Academy and Chartered Scientist status. He is currently a PhD candidate through Coventry University.
He has worked in applied roles at AFC Bournemouth, GB Para Nordic Ski Team, Williams Innovation (part of the Williams F1 group), Red Bull Racing and with multiple World Record holder Johnny Huntington who reached the South Pole in 2025. He also has extensive experience as a lecturer at a range of universities in the United Kingdom. In addition to lecturing Phill is a CASES Accredited Sport and Exercise Scientist specialising in physiology and pedagogy.
Current Activity
Phill is a Senior Lecturer in sport and exercise physiology delivering undergraduate and postgraduate units on physiology, exercise prescription, supporting athletes and the undergraduate and postgraduate research project units. Phill is also research active and has led grant funded research on concussion in sport and is a PhD candidate researching behaviours and attitudes towards concussion in football. As a senior academic Phill sits on the institution’s Education Committee as well as undertaking roles on course and partnership approval panels.
Phill currently also works as a performance scientist and consultant with professional and amateur athletes and coaches in the United Kingdom and internationally. This year he is working with endurance athletes working towards world records in winter 2026/27 He also has experience testing and advising on new technologies for a range of international partners. He is also a supervisor and reviewer for those undertaking Chartered Association of Sport and Exercise Science Supervised Experience and sits on the Association’s Integrity Advisory Group.
