Biography
Jo Smith has been Head of Strategic Planning and Performance since April 2025 and was Finance Director at the University College of Osteopathy (UCO), prior to its merger into HSU.
Jo brings a substantive track record in financial leadership. As the long-time Finance Director of the UCO, she played a strategic role in transforming a small private charity into a publicly funded university with degree awarding powers. Jo provided financial leadership across all areas of finance including budgeting, financial reporting and forecasts, governance and risk. She enjoys working collaboratively, building relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Milestones at the UCO included taking the lead on the purchase and fit-out of a new clinic building and introducing an integrated financial management system for the organisation.
In her role at HSU, Jo provides strategic input to ensure the continued growth and resilience of the University, working with senior management on plans, projects and processes while taking a leading role on data and risk management. Jo likes to bring a proactive, collegial approach to the job, making things happen.
