Biography

Dr Jamiu Busari is an award-winning keynote speaker and a respected leader in medical education and healthcare innovation. He serves as an Associate Professor of Medical Education at Maastricht University (Netherlands), an Adjunct Professor and Scientist at the Institute for Disability and Rehabilitation Research, Ontario Tech University (Canada), and a Visiting Professor at the Health Business School, Health Sciences University (London, UK). He is also the founder and program leader of the JUMP18 Foundation – Aruba childhood obesity prevention and intervention program.

Dr. Busari is a Certified Canadian Physician Executive, Harvard Macy Scholar, and graduate of Harvard Business School’s Executive Program in Managing Health Care Delivery. He is widely recognized for his contributions to global medical education and leadership. He is also an educational consultant to various professional organisations including Eurospine, NASKHO.

A passionate advocate for diversity, equity, inclusion (DEI) and social justice, Dr. Busari serves on the Advisory Council on Diversity and Inclusion at Maastricht University and also lends his expertise as an Associate Editor for ICEnet Blog , Clinical Medicine and Research, and Commissioning Editor for BMJLeader. He is also the co-chair of the BMJLeader’s special interest group for Africa.

His excellence in clinical leadership and education has earned numerous accolades, including the Educational Leadership Award (World Education Congress, 2015), Clinician of the Year (Maastricht University, 2015), and the International Residency Educator Award (Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, 2016). Most recently, he was awarded the Jan Heijlman Prize for Best Teaching Specialist (Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, 2022) and an Honorary Fellowship by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (2023). In addition to his academic and leadership roles, Dr. Busari continues to serve patients as a consultant pediatrician at Horacio Oduber Hospital in Aruba.
