Biography
Cathy trained as a physiotherapist in Sydney, Australia, before relocating to the UK in 2004. Since then, she has worked within the NHS in advanced practice roles, specialising in musculoskeletal and orthopaedic care, with a particular focus on spinal, hip, shoulder and pain management clinics. She has also contributed to postgraduate education, previously lecturing on master’s-level musculoskeletal care programmes at London South Bank University.
Cathy’s career spans both NHS and private sectors, where she has led advanced practice clinics and gained extensive experience in private practice. She holds a Diploma in Injection Therapy and is a qualified Independent Physiotherapy Prescriber—skills she actively integrates into her current work as a First Contact Practitioner (FCP) physiotherapist in GP surgeries.
She has a strong interest in clinical reasoning, a focus she has embedded within the FCP course at HSU. Since joining HSU as an Associate Lecturer, Cathy has worked to enhance the knowledge and skills of FCPs in primary care. Under the leadership of the CWSI team, she has played a key role in developing the FCP course into a widely recognised programme, delivering training across all five professions outlined in the FCP roadmaps.
In addition to her academic and clinical roles, Cathy also prepares expert witness physiotherapy reports for the civil courts, offering her specialist insight to support legal proceedings.
