HSU launches first Skills Bootcamp in September 2026
Health Sciences University (HSU) is proud to launch its first ever Skills Bootcamp this month, marking an exciting milestone in our commitment to workforce development and skills for the Dorset community. Skills Bootcamps form an important part of the Government’s agenda to address skills gaps, support career progression and develop a workforce equipped to meet future challenges. The funding was won by the Centre for Workforce and Systems Innovation following a very competitive bidding process earlier this year.
The new bootcamp, ‘Coaching for Prevention: Conversations for Change’, has been developed in partnership with Help & Care and will equip participants with the practical skills, confidence and knowledge needed to support preventative approaches across health, care and wellbeing services. Help & Care is a Dorset-based health and wellbeing charity with more than 35 years’ experience supporting people to live independently and improve their wellbeing, the bootcamp reflects a shared commitment to prevention, empowerment and community-focused care.
The launch comes at a significant time, as prevention and workforce development continue to be central priorities within national policy. They are designed to provide flexible, employer-led training that delivers tangible benefits for individuals, organisations and the communities they serve. As a specialist health sciences university, HSU is uniquely placed to bring together academic expertise, practical experience and strong employer partnerships to create innovative learning opportunities. The Bootcamp will offer participants access to HSU’s learning facilities, simulation environments and expert teaching team, creating a rich and supportive learning experience.
Dr Claire Nadaf, Head of Engagement and Partnerships, said: “We are incredibly proud to be launching HSU’s first Skills Bootcamp. Prevention is one of the most important priorities across health and social care, and the workforce has a vital role to play in supporting people to live healthier, more independent lives. This programme will help participants build the skills, confidence and knowledge needed to have meaningful conversations that support positive change, while strengthening collaboration across organisations and communities. Thank you to Dr Hilary Walsgrove for her hard work in making this Bootcamp happen and to Rob Gibson for all of his ongoing support with this initiative. ”
We look forward to welcoming the first cohort of learners during September and sharing their progress and achievements throughout the programme.
