HSU Health Business School student-led society hosts inaugural Health Biz Summit
Students, graduates, healthcare professionals and industry partners gathered at Health Sciences University’s London Campus on 18th August for the school’s first Health Biz Summit, a day organised by our Health Business School student-led society and focused on healthcare leadership. The summit provided opportunities to learn from experienced healthcare leaders, explore career pathways and build valuable professional connections.
The event opened with a welcome from Health Business and Leadership Club Co-Vice Presidents, Saba Firdous Khatun and Dilip Kanu, followed by an address from Professor Lesley Haig, Vice-Chancellor of Health Sciences University, who highlighted the role that HSU plays in shaping the future of healthcare by developing leadership, innovation and collaboration.

A keynote address from Professor Richard Brown, Honorary Professor and Chair of the HBLC Advisory Council, encouraged attendees to embrace the opportunities and challenges facing the healthcare sector, whilst inspiring students to develop the skills and confidence needed to become future leaders. Professor Brown said: “It was a pleasure and privilege to be part of the event. I greatly appreciate the opportunity to share my experience and engage with such an enthusiastic and forward-looking community, and I commend the HBS for the excellent work you are doing.”
Throughout the day, participants took part in a series of employability and career-focused sessions covering healthcare management, professional networking, personal branding, mentoring and career progression. Expert speakers shared insights from across healthcare, academia and industry, offering practical advice to support students and graduates at every stage of their professional journey.
The summit also featured a dedicated exhibition and networking session with healthcare employer, Black Sciensus, giving attendees the opportunity to engage directly with industry representatives and gain valuable insight into recruitment, career options, and workforce expectations.

A key milestone for the School was the official launch of their Health Business and Leadership Club (HBLC), providing students with a new platform to develop leadership skills, expand professional networks and enhance their career readiness through a programme of events and activities. Ruth Oluwaseun Olayinka, Interim President of the Health Business and Leadership Club, said: “The launch of HBLC marks an exciting chapter for our students. We’re very excited about building on the success of the event and seeing what we can achieve with the Health Business and Leadership Club over the coming months.”
The event concluded with an end-of-course celebration, recognising the achievements of students through awards, presentations and graduate reflections, as well as vibrant performances from our student community. Family, friends, staff and peers joined together to celebrate student success and mark the culmination of their academic journey ahead of the first cohort of Health Business School students graduating later this year.

The planning that went into the summit, the launch of the HBLC student-led society, and celebration for our May 2025 flagship cohort was phenomenal, and I am delighted it was a successful inaugural event. My thanks also go to our HSU colleagues present, all our invited speakers and guests who truly made the day extra special.”
Professor Lesley Haig, Vice-Chancellor at Health Sciences University, added: “Reflecting on how far we’ve come since the start of the Health Business School, it is great to see us leading the way and working with people who really care about healthcare.
