Final Leg of 630-Mile Memorial Walk to End at Health Sciences University
Health Sciences University is delighted to welcome Jacqui Rix to campus as she completes an extraordinary 630-mile fundraising walk along the Southwest Coast Path, as part of the ‘Rix Big Ramble 2’ in memory of her late husband, George Rix.
Having begun her journey on 12 March 2026, exactly one year after George’s passing, Jacqui, accompanied by her corgi Scrumpy, has walked from Minehead, Somerset to Health Sciences University (HSU) in Bournemouth, where she will complete her journey on Monday 11 May 2026. The walk honours George Rix, a respected chiropractic lecturer and alumnus of Health Sciences University, formerly AECC University College, who passed away from prostate cancer in March 2025. The ‘Rix Big Ramble 2’ follows the same route George completed in 2009, when he raised £10,000 for clinical neurology research, continuing his legacy of fundraising and support for important health causes.
This journey is both a deeply personal tribute and a powerful campaign to raise awareness of prostate cancer whilst also raising vital funds for Prostate Cancer UK and University Hospitals Dorset Prostate Cancer Services.
Health Sciences University has a longstanding connection to this cause through its community, staff, and healthcare partnerships. George Rix was a valued member of the HSU academic community, and his legacy continues to resonate across the University. HSU also supported Jacqui during her training, providing treatment and care to help her prepare for the physical demands of the walk.
George Rix previously completed the same route in 2009, raising £10,000 for clinical neurology research. Jacqui’s walk continues this legacy of determination, fundraising, and support for important health causes.
Daniel Heritage, Chiropractic Clinic Lead at Health Sciences University, said:
“We are very proud to have supported Jacqui during her training for the ‘Rix Big Ramble 2’. This wonderful initiative allows us to remember George, who was an important part of Health Sciences University for many years, whilst also helping raise awareness of prostate cancer. We look forward to welcoming Jacqui across the finish line on Monday 11 May at our Bournemouth campus.”
HSU will host a finish line event at its Bournemouth campus to celebrate Jacqui’s remarkable achievement and bring together staff, students, supporters, and members of the local community.
Supporters are invited to follow Jacqui’s journey, make a donation, and attend the finish line event at Health Sciences University in Bournemouth.
