Since joining HSU in 2023, Billy Coleman has been teaching across the BSc and MSc Sport Rehabilitation programmes while also coordinating student placements. A BASRaT-accredited practitioner and HSU MSc Sport Rehabilitation & Therapy graduate, they combine teaching with hands-on industry experience at Wimborne Town FC and Bournemouth Heart Club, supporting patients across cardiac, respiratory, diabetes and cancer rehabilitation.

What I do at HSU…

I joined HSU in 2023 as a lecturer in Sport & Exercise Rehabilitation and teach on the BSc & MSc Sport Rehab programmes. I also act as placement co-ordinator for them.

Where I studied/qualified…

I studied a BSc Clinical Exercise Science at Bournemouth University then an MSc Sport Rehabilitation & Therapy at HSU. I am currently a BASRaT-accredited practitioner.

What I do in addition to teaching…

I have worked at Wimborne Town FC for four seasons alongside my work at HSU. I also work at Bournemouth Heart Club, delivering exercise sessions for cardiac, diabetes, cancer and respiratory outpatients.

“…Getting a range of experience in different fields(academia/sport/long-term conditions) has helped develop my confidence …”

The best thing about HSU is…

The close-knit environment. The size of the university allows closer relationships and individualised feedback to be given. The IRC allows students to undertake placements, with students currently assisting with the PERFORM trial research.

What I plan to do next…

I hope to obtain a PGCert in higher education in the coming years, as well as gaining fellowship.
