Overview
Our BSc (Hons) Sport and Exercise Psychology degree offers you the opportunity to delve deep into psychology and its particular application to sport, performance and exercise contexts.
If you’re interested in a career as a psychologist specialising in sport and performance, or physical activity and exercise, then this course will give you the skills and knowledge to reach your goal. Develop a strong scientific understanding of the mind, brain, behaviour, experience and the complex interactions between these elements through innovative teaching and completing independent research.
An integral part of our course is making sure you gain an insight into the world of applied practice. You will have the opportunity to interact with sport, exercise and performance psychology services on campus and will have access to a range of exciting opportunities to further underpin your learning.
You will work with our academic staff who have experience of working in the sport, exercise and performance industries and have conducted contemporary research within these areas. Get excited and prepare to develop your practical experience and scientific knowledge with cutting-edge technology such as EEG imaging and eye-tracking.

What you will learn
The BSc (Hons) Sport and Exercise Psychology course is delivered through a range of lectures, seminars, tutorials and demonstrations, alongside supervised workshops, project supervision, practical classes, guided independent study, work-based learning, small group learning, guest lectures, role-play activities and case study analysis.
You will learn through a variety of teaching styles, including formative and summative assessment methods which are placed throughout our psychology units promoting a deeper learning. You will make the most of our on-site laboratory testing facilities, with more traditional coursework, essays, presentations, group work, and practical skills assessments.
With access to our Virtual Learning Environment, your education will be interactive and varied. Through quizzes, video tutorials, seminar notes and more you will be able to study whenever, and wherever suits you alongside your core teaching.

Zöe is a Senior Lecturer in Psychology within the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences. She is a Chartered Psychologist specialising in visual performance in elite athletes – and area in which she has been working for over a decade.

What grades do I need?
If you’re applying from the UK or Ireland:
Essential for entry
Please note that applicants must hold 5 GCSEs A*-C including Maths and English, or equivalent (reformed GCSEs grade 4 or above) to be considered for the programme.
A-levels
BBB-BCC or above. General Studies will not be considered.
BTEC Extended Diploma
Distinction Merit Merit – Merit, Merit, Merit or above.
Access to HE Diploma
A total of 120-104 UCAS points in an Access to HE Diploma.
International Baccalaureate
Overall grade of 32-28 points or higher.
Scottish Highers/Advanced Highers
BBBBB – BBCCCC or above in 5 Higher/Advanced Higher subjects.
Irish Leaving Certificate
H3,H3,H3,H3,H3 – H3,H3,H4,H4,H4 from 5 subjects at Higher Level.
T Level
Merit in any Health and Science pathway accepted.

UK/ROI/Channel Islands and Isle of Man students – £9,250 per year
International – £16,560 per year
Please note: These fees are for the 2024-25 academic year only and may be subject to increase in subsequent years of study. Any increase will be in line with our Tuition Fees Policy but will not be more than 5%.
Additional course costs
