Earlier this week, we were pleased to welcome 13 new PhD students to Health Sciences University during our induction event.

The hybrid induction event marked the beginning of an exciting new chapter in our students’ research journeys as they begin developing their projects and continue to hone their research skills.

The event gave students an opportunity to meet staff and fellow students and learn more about the support available to them during their doctoral studies.

During the session, students heard from Vice-Chancellor Professor Lesley Haig, Doctoral Coordinators Dr Sophie MacKenzie and Dr Oliver Thomson, and members of the Research & Knowledge Exchange support team, including Head of Research Dr Julie Northam.

Current PhD student Cherry Brennan also shared insights from her own research experience at HSU, encouraging students to make the most of the supportive community and opportunities available to them.

The new cohort will undertake a wide range of research projects, exploring topics such as workforce development, chronic pain, athletic performance, podiatry, and physical activity for children with ADHD.

HSU’s postgraduate research community now includes 27 PhD students, reflecting our ongoing commitment to advancing health sciences research and supporting emerging researchers.

Reflecting on the day, Dr Julie Northam commented: “We’re really pleased to welcome our new postgraduate research students to HSU. Their work will contribute to vital areas of health research, helping to shape the future of healthcare practice and policy.

“It’s a pleasure to support our postgraduate research students as they navigate their PhD journeys and to watch them grow and develop as researchers.”

A huge welcome to our new postgraduate research students; we can’t wait to see your work develop!
