  • Please bear in mind that should you need to retake an assessment (which could be due to ill health and missing an assessment or failing an assessment for example) then you would need to be available to come on to campus for the following reassessment weeks so please do not book any holidays or travel outside of the UK on these dates – if you are not able to attend during these weeks then no alternatives can be offered and you would unfortunately fail the year:
    • Week commencing 22nd June 2026
    • Week commencing 3rd August 2026
  • The ‘opportunity for clinical recovery’ period at the end of the year on the year plan is also potentially when you may need to go back out into clinical placement, should you not achieve the minimum 90% attendance at clinical placement due to ill health or exceptional personal circumstances so these are also dates you may be required to attend placement within Dorset and Hampshire
  • Students booking accommodation with Lulworth House should be aware that their contract may not cover placement periods and alternative accomodation may need to be arranged for placement periods. Student Services can provide information and advice on alternatives.
  • You are advised to research thee NHS Learning Support Fund which may be able to support you financially with additional placement accommodation and travel costs.  Most UK students are eligible and you may be able to reclaim costs for placement travel and accommodation, if they are additional to your normal costs for living and travelling to university. Access to Higher Education Diploma

This course is designed specifically, but not exclusively, for students with little or no scientific background, and is ideal for those who wish to pursue a career in a healthcare discipline, but aren’t yet ready to undertake a degree programme.

The course will help develop the knowledge and skills needed to continue on to further study in a healthcare discipline at undergraduate degree level. There is a strong emphasis on the biological and physical sciences, as well as an introduction to patient interaction and psychology. Students also gain a strong foundation in English, mathematics and study skills.

The Access to HE Diploma is intended as a stepping-stone to study at undergraduate degree level and Health Sciences University is committed to removing barriers to our degree level courses. Students who successfully complete the Access to HE Diploma and then decide to continue their studies with a HSU undergraduate degree in 2026 will not be required to repay the tutition fee for this course.

Get to know our campuses

During your welcome and induction week there will be lots of opportunity to explore your campus and the surrounding area, but you can start to familiarise yourself ahead of arrival with our handy guides below.
