Our BSc (Hons) Sport Rehabilitation with Foundation Year offers a structured route into the BSc (Hons) Sport Rehabilitation degree. Based at our Bournemouth campus, this course offers the perfect setting for focused study in a beautiful coastal location.
During your foundation year, you’ll join a dynamic, multidisciplinary health sciences community, building confidence and developing essential academic skills under the guidance of experienced teaching staff. This carefully designed year ensures a smooth transition into the main degree programme, setting you on the path to a fulfilling career in sports rehabilitation.
This course equips you with the expertise to prevent, diagnose, treat, and rehabilitate injuries across all levels of sport, from amateur to elite. You’ll study key areas such as anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, and therapeutic exercise, combining theoretical knowledge with practical skills through hands-on experience.

What you will learn
Students on the course will get hands-on practical experience, learning from the expert staff who teach on the course. The course includes extensive practical and laboratory-based work to help develop your understanding of human anatomy, the biomechanics and physiology of the human body, and the pathology of injury and dysfunction.

Careers and Opportunities
Graduates of this course can go on to become registered members of BASRaT – eligibility is contingent on a number of requirements, one of which is holding a BASRaT accredited degree, or equivalent entry. Please see course details below for more information.

Successful completion of the undergraduate programme also opens up further postgraduate opportunities such as Strength and Conditioning, Sport Sciences or research in the form of MRes/PhD study

If you’re applying from the UK or Ireland:
You’ll need a minimum of five GCSEs at grade 4 (C) or above including English language and Maths. Key Skills/Functional Skills Level 2 in Communication and Application of Number can be accepted in place of English and Maths GCSE. For mature or non-traditional applicants consideration will be given to individual circumstances.

If you live in the UK, we’ll need a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service (Enhanced DBS) check. It’s standard for all UK students and we’ll be there to guide you through the process once you’ve applied.
- 64 UCAS Tariff points
- A-levels: DDE or higher. Your grades can be in any subject, though we don’t consider General Studies.
- BTEC Extended Diploma: Merit
- Access to HE Diploma: 45 credits at level 3 with a merit profile or above.
- International Baccalaureate: Overall grade of 28 points or higher.
- Scottish Highers/Advanced Highers: BBCCC or above from 5 Higher subjects.
- Irish Leaving Certificate: Minimum of 5 subjects at Higher level, with grades H3, H3, H3, H4, H4 or above.
- T Levels: Merit in any T-Level subject.
We welcome learners from non-traditional backgrounds and will consider individual circumstances where appropriate.

Nils Theuninck is a third-year Master of Chiropractic student at Health Sciences University with an impressive background in elite sailing. He has competed internationally as part of the Swiss National Sailing Team and has earned several podium finishes at major events. Most recently, Nils sailed with Alinghi Red Bull Racing in their challenge for the 37th America’s Cup. His dedication to both sport and chiropractic has been recognised with a 2025 International Sports Chiropractic Federation (FICS) Student Scholarship. We spoke to him about his sailing journey, how this influenced his decision to study chiropractic, and his goals for the future.
