Course Details
High quality workplace supervision for healthcare professionals is essential for supporting the development of confidence and capability and underpins patient and practitioner safety. Workplace supervision can support a culture of openness and candour and provide the opportunity to reflect on practise and discuss challenges, with the support and guidance of another professional.
This short course aims to introduce the concept of workplace supervision through exploring the role of the supervisor, the skills and attributes required for effective supervision and introduce theories and models of supervision to provide an evidence base for application in the workplace.
1. Describe workplace supervision and the benefits for the individual, organisation and service user
2. Understand the fundamental roles and responsibilities of a workplace supervisor.
3. Identify key skills and attributes necessary for effective supervision.
4. Demonstrate knowledge of the theories and models of supervision and their application within the workplace.
Amanda Weaver Bsc (Hons) Physiotherapy, MCSP
Senior lecturer and course lead for the Enhanced Clinical Practice apprenticeship and unit lead for the PG Cert Healthcare Education module on Workplace Supervision.
Amanda’s clinical, education and strategic roles have led to her passion in supporting Allied Health Professionals (AHPs) to develop their knowledge and skills in order to provide high quality patient care.
Amanda was the AHP Workforce Lead for the National AHP Preceptorship and Foundation Support programme at NHS England and led the publication of the HCPC Principles for Preceptorship, NHS England AHP Preceptorship Standards and Framework and accompanying resources and continues as a subject matter expert supporting NHS England and professional body projects.
