National Student Survey (NSS)
National Student Survey (NSS)
Don’t miss your chance to have your say before you graduate
The National Student Survey (NSS) is now open and will close on 30 April 2026.
If you’re a final‑year undergraduate, this is your chance to tell us about your experience of studying at HSU.
The survey only takes around 10 minutes, is completely anonymous, and your feedback helps shape the future of HSU — for you and for future students.
Below are 10 reasons why we’d love you to take part.
- It’s just for final‑year students
This survey is all about your experience on your course — what worked well and what could be better. The NSS is a national survey, so by taking part you’re contributing to something bigger and helping to improve higher education across the UK.
- We’re listening..
The NSS is a key way we listen to final‑year students. Every response matters, and we take your feedback seriously. The NSS is a national listening exercise and provides us with a unique opportunity to listen to your experiences and make changes accordingly.
- It’s quick and easy to complete
The survey takes around 10 minutes. You’ll need your student number and a few personal details to confirm your eligibility, but these details are not linked to your answers.
- Your feedback helps improve life at HSU
Students are at the heart of everything we do at HSU, and your feedback leads to real change.
Recent improvements shaped by final‑year students include:
- changes to placements in radiography – returning to campus in September before first placement
- recording assessments for perceptions of fairness and enhanced moderation in chiropractic
- therapy dog visits in Student Services
All of these came directly from last year’s final‑year student feedback.
- Your course team uses the results
Course teams carefully review NSS feedback each year and create action plans based on what students tell us.
- The wider University uses it too
Results are shared across key departments such as the Library, Student Services and IT, helping them improve the support and resources available to you.
- It looks at the whole student experience
The survey covers a wide range of topics — not just your course, but your wider student experience — giving us valuable insight into life at HSU, what’s working well and what needs attention.
- It’s anonymous and independent
The NSS is run by Ipsos MORI on behalf of the Office for Students.
It’s completely anonymous, and all UK universities are asked to encourage final‑year students to take part.
You’ll receive an email invitation, or you can complete the survey online at:
If you don’t receive an invite or have any issues completing the survey, contact your Course Lead or Lisa Bates, Head of Student Services and Wellbeing, at lbates@aecc.ac.uk.
- Once it’s done, the reminders stop
Ipsos MORI may contact you by email, text, or phone while the survey is open.
Once you’ve completed it, you won’t receive any further reminders.
- You’ll help future students
NSS results are publicly available and help future students make informed decisions about where and what to study
A message from the Vice Chancellor

Dear Future Colleague,
At HSU, your student voice matters. Your feedback helps us understand what is working well across your course and the wider University and where we can improve your experience.
We are aware that you have had many times when you’ve given feedback both formally and informally during your course. We’ve been really grateful for this which has allowed us to make changes in year and for future cohorts.
Many of you in your final year are now being asked to participate in an additional survey called The National Student Survey (NSS) which is now open.
If you are eligible, you will receive an invitation to take part.
This survey invites you to reflect on your experience across the entire duration of your course – in teaching, assessment and feedback, academic support, organisation and management.
Your responses are confidential and the survey is run independently. Taking part is completely voluntary, and every response adds weight to the student voice. The aim of the survey is to build an honest, meaningful picture of what it is really like to study at HSU.
The survey will be open until 30th April. Thank you in advance for taking the time to share your views and help shape the future of HSU.
