HSU appoints two new visiting professors from University Hospitals Dorset

HSU is delighted to announce the appointment of two new Visiting professors, Siobhan Harrington and Sarah Herbert. Both Siobhan and Sarah are senior leaders from University Hospitals Dorset (UHD). Their appointments strengthen the strategic partnership between HSU and UHD, supporting our shared commitment to education, research and innovation, workforce development and high‑quality patient care.

Siobhan Harrington – Visiting Professor

As Chief Executive of University Hospitals Dorset, Siobhan brings extensive NHS leadership experience and a strong track record in service transformation, organisational development, and effective partnership working. A highly accomplished HSJ Top 50 NHS Chief Executive, she is recognised for delivering results and driving continuous improvements in patient care. She is known for championing inclusive, compassionate leadership and has significant system‑level expertise, successfully guiding complex change and leading reconfiguration across organisational boundaries.

Sarah Herbert – Visiting Professor

Sarah, Chief Nurse at University Hospitals Dorset is an experienced NHS leader with a strong background across acute and integrated care settings, recognised for passion, professionalism, and commitment to high‑quality, compassionate patient care. A visible, approachable, and inclusive senior nurse, she champions a values‑based approach that empowers teams and drives meaningful improvement. She has a proven record of enhancing outcomes and patient experience in senior roles and is respected as an effective communicator skilled in influencing and negotiating at all levels. Sarah is deeply committed to developing healthcare professionals and maintaining regulatory standards, she ensures quality, safety, and accountability remain central. Sarah is also a Florence Nightingale Foundation Leadership Scholar.

These appointments deepen an already strong relationship between our University and University Hospitals Dorset. Together, we will continue to advance education, research, and workforce transformation across Dorset’s health and care system.
