Course Details

Evidence continues to demonstrate how quickly emergent skills erode and how standard training in the hospital or clinical setting does not address the needs of the pre-hospital practitioner.  Delegates are encouraged to re-evaluate their emergent skills and knowledge and discuss their own experiences and concerns amongst their peers, based on actual scenarios and case studies. This course provides the minimum level of statutory first aid training recommended by the Health and Safety Executive. You will be awarded a nationally-recognised ‘Emergency First Aid at Work’ certificate which is valid for 3 years and is accepted by all healthcare and therapy governing bodies for insurance and CPD purposes.

Whilst no longer required face masks will be available for all who would like to use them.

Registration is from 09:00 and the course runs from 09:30-17:30.

About the course leader

Dan Major has over 24 years of experience working as a healthcare professional in the Ambulance Service. As an NHS Paramedic, he has held multiple roles on the frontline, including 8 years as a member of the Hazardous Area Response Team (HART). Throughout most of his ambulance career, Dan has been involved in instructing and assessing, starting as a mentor for new staff before becoming a Safe Working at Height Instructor in HART. He later transitioned to roles such as Assistant Community Engagement and Training Officer. He integrates these experiences into his training courses, making them engaging and enjoyable for all.

Two and a half years ago, Dan left full-time ambulance service employment to establish his own company, Medical Rescue Consultancy Ltd (MRC Ltd), though he still maintains a part-time bank contract with South Central Ambulance Service. Through MRC Ltd, Dan provides a range of training, from one-hour emergency first aid CPD sessions to five-day pre-hospital emergency care courses (FREC4). In summer 2023, Dan joined the English Football Association’s (FA) medical faculty and now teaches on their courses at venues across the UK. He is also a visiting lecturer in Pre-Hospital Emergency Care assisting with the delivery of the FA’s Intermediate Trauma and Medical Management in Football (ITMMIF) courses at Solent University.

Dan’s training is based on the latest evidence-based emergency care practices. It is delivered in a realistic and pragmatic manner, clearly and straightforwardly, making it suitable for Physical Therapists and Clinicians. The training aims to demonstrate how clinical reasoning skills should be adapted and applied across a variety of trauma, medical, and time-critical scenarios.
