Katherine Chambers

Lecturer in Physiotherapy and Placement Co-ordinator

Katherine is a physiotherapy lecturer and placement co-ordinator within the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences.

Biography

Katherine qualified as a physiotherapist in 2002 and has worked clinically in the NHS and private sector since, specialising in neurology and rehabilitation.  Katherine has led clinical teams and set up new services and most recently this was the stroke outreach service at University Hospitals Dorset.  This role involved setting up and leading the specialist team to deliver assessment and acute management to potential stroke cases, primarily in the emergency department.

Katherine joined Health Sciences University in 2022, seeking an opportunity to share her clinical knowledge and experience, having supported students in practice for many years.  Since joining Health Sciences University, Katherine has completed her Masters degree and her PG Cert in Health Sciences Education.

Experience, Areas of interest/expertise

Katherines enthusiasm for rehabilitation was sparked when working in the spinal cord rehabilitation centre in Salisbury and she has sought opportunities to join rehabilitation teams since.  This has led her to work clinically in large NHS trusts across the south coast as well as in the community as a private practitioner developing clinical expertise in the field of neurological rehabilitation.  Katherine is also interested in developments in practice education and ensuring quality in practice-based experiences for students prior to qualifying.

Research interests

Katherine has completed research seeking physiotherapists perspectives on using robotic technology in rehabilitation.  She is interested in this area and the barriers to implementing technological developments into clinical practice as well as the clinical benefits such technologies may bring to patients.
