Dr. Fiona Kiernan is a clinician and economist with a strong background in health economics, policy, and medical education. She brings extensive experience from both academic and advisory roles, with a focus on bridging theory and real-world healthcare decision-making.

Biography

Dr. Fiona KiernanĀ is a clinician and economist with extensive experience in medical education, health economics, and policy. She has taught final-year medical students at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) and has lectured in economics and health policy to postgraduate doctors. Her teaching is highly applied, integrating real-world case studies, economic models, and healthcare financing strategies to bridge the gap between theory and practice. She emphasizes practical problem-solving, preparing students to navigate complex healthcare systems and make evidence-based decisions.

Beyond teaching, Dr. Kiernan has designed economic models for healthcare payers and advised governments on health financing reform. She is the founder of Zeumed, a health economics consultancy specializing in health policy evaluation, cost-benefit analysis, and econometric modeling. She has also served on the boards of key state health agencies in Ireland, including the Health Insurance Authority from 2016 to 2021. She currently serves on the board of the the Health Products Regulatory Authority, and the National Treatment Purchase Fund.
