Course Details


An impactful evidence-based, experiential workshop with accredited facilitators and professional actors. Please note course numbers are limited.

This course is open to all healthcare professionals; post registration, Band 6 and above and you must have at least 6 months experience in your current role in order to bring examples of scenarios that you are finding challenging in practice.

This workshop will enable participants to explore, share and develop skills, knowledge and confidence in managing aspects of communication in practice that can often feel, challenging or complex ie;

  • Breaking bad or significant news
  • Uncertainty with diagnosis or prognosis
  • Choice or informed decision making
  • Managing strong emotions
  • End of life care discussions, DNAR, TEP
  • Change from curative (or acute episode) to palliative (or chronic condition)
  • Communicating with elderly or frail

Please note If you have had a bereavement in the past 6 months it is recommended that you defer attending this training for 12 months due to potential triggering content.

Course Format

  • Review of effective communication skills session.
  • Small group work where each participant is allocated a dedicated skills practice session to try new ideas and strategies.
  • The participant will work with an experienced facilitated working with trained actors to provide a simulated patient, relative or colleague on a topic of their choice.
  • Stimulate discussion and constructive feedback from peers and actors in a safe learning environment.
  • Embedding learning into clinical practice
